The morning starts slow inside the hot tent, the stove still giving off a gentle warmth from the night before. Outside, the world is cold and quiet, but in here the air is soft, comfortable, and calm. I crawl out of the sleeping bag, throw a few pieces of wood into the stove, and let the fire come back to life. ☕ Coffee is the first mission of the day. The kettle goes on, and soon the tent fills with that rich, familiar smell—strong coffee mixing with the scent of woodsmoke. There’s something about that combination that just hits different when you’re out here. 🍎 After the coffee brews, I get breakfast going. German apple pancakes in the Dutch oven—simple ingredients, but they turn into something amazing when they bake over a steady fire. Cinnamon, apples, butter… the whole tent smells like a backcountry bakery. When the lid finally comes off, the pancake is golden, puffed, and perfect. 🎣 After breakfast, it’s time to head out. We make pack up and make our way down to the reservoir. The water is calm, the air crisp, and the only sound is the crunch of frost under my boots. It’s the kind of morning that makes you slow down and appreciate where you are. A few casts in, and the day officially begins. Caramelized Apples: 3 Tbs butter, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and apple slices. Preheat oven to 424 degrees, bake for 15 minutes then reduce to 375 for 10 minutes.
