Our first sailing trip through the Sacramento–San Joaquin Delta turned into way more of an adventure than we expected. From walking the docks and meeting up with our old sailor friend, to slipping out into the channels and catching that first bit of Delta breeze, the whole day felt like a reset button. We worked our way through the winding sloughs, passed old boats tucked into the banks, spotted a beaver dam, and even found a forgotten house half‑claimed by the tules. By sunset we were anchored in a quiet pocket of water, cooking sherry‑steamed chicken and a simple salad onboard while the Delta settled down around us.
