Camping With My Ex’s Help (While on Crutches)

Getting back outside felt almost impossible. But my ex came along on this trip to help me get back out into nature for some much-needed therapy. We headed up an off-road trail to the very top of Thomas Mountain, eventually finding camp at the last yellow post campsite on the trail. The views from up there were incredible — 360° views of lakes, mountains, sunset skies, and city lights glowing in the distance at night. The weather was perfect. We watched the sunset over the mountains, cooked tacos for dinner, and had a couple cocktails by the fire while the stars came out. Being injured really makes you appreciate the outdoors even more. Sometimes just getting away from everything, sitting by a fire, and taking in the views is the best kind of therapy. In the morning we woke up to birds chirping and the sunrise lighting up the mountains, made coffee, and cooked a full camp breakfast with eggs, sausage, and pancakes before packing up camp. Even with a torn Lisfranc ligament and crutches, it felt amazing to get back out and enjoy nature again.
