Do ebikes cause more damage to trails than regular old mountain bikes? According to some research yes, but not the way you might think. Now I don't have an electric mountain bike - I'm cheap and it's also a lack of interest on my part. I'm cool with just a bike, no motor needed for now. With that said, the bike industry pushing E-MTB hard and it seems like every Tom, Dick and Mary has one on YouTube. They make bank on these bikes and there's nothing wrong with that. But what about the trails and the issues with e-bikes being ridden on them? Do they cause more damage? Well no, and yes maybe. Will this affect trail availability for all kinds of bikes - it could. It's a lot more thorny and complicated than many might think.
