Lets talk about flat pedals shoes. These are footwear specifically designed for riding your MTB. They have tough rubber bottoms, have stiff soles, minimum cushion, usually heavy but tough material making up the body of the shoe. Some say they are designed to match certain pedals like these Crank Bros shoes and matching pedals. There are benefits to these shoes - they are durable, easy to clean and don't deform on the pedal while you are riding. But - I've found that this is at the cost of comfort. These things tend to be more work boot than sneaker. What if you could just wear whatever sneaker you wanted? Maybe a trail shoe? Maybe even Vans. With a special insert you can use just about any sneaker you want.
