In this video I literally do a full cook up inside of GarageBand and let you hear the whole flow—writing the lyrics, recording the vocals, and building the vibe from scratch. You can hear my voice live while I’m tracking, and I show you small stuff that makes a big difference, like turning the echo off while I’m recording so it’s not distracting, then bringing the master echo and reverb back in after I get the take. I’m typing lyrics, testing lines, keeping what feels right, and deleting what doesn’t fit—because sometimes you gotta take a lyric out to make it sit in the pocket. Once I had the main vocal, I start shaping it: I hit “A” for automation and create keyframes to ride levels, then I add more reverb, bring the echo back, and even do a high-pass/low-pass roll-off to get that radio-effect type sound. I also crank the auto-tune and push the reverb on a specific vocal to change the texture. At the end I bounce out and play it back so you can hear how “super crazy” it is that a free app on your Mac can sound that dope. My big takeaway: GarageBand is a no-brainer if you’re trying to get into music. It’s not the same GarageBand from 10 years ago—it’s powerful, it’s convenient, and you can really make records in it.
