Motorola Moto Z3 Play | A Modular Phone that Just Works

#motorola #motoz3play #motomods #android Modular smart phones never took off like foldable phones, but some of them were pretty good! For example, the Moto Z3 Play I'm unboxing today! The Moto Z3 was the third generation of Motorola's Z line - a series of phones which made modularity easy and intuitive. You could simply snap a modular accessory onto the back of your phone and you were good to go - no need to restart the device or take it apart. The mods gave users access to cool features like powerful speakers, battery packs, stylish backplates of wood or leather, 360 degree cameras, and even a projector! It was a bold line of devices that brought a certain fun to cell phones that a lot of other mobile devices were lacking. When this phone release in 2018, it was an era where manufacturers were experimenting with new aspect ratios and aggressively trimming down bezels. The Z3 Play benefits from some of these decisions, as well as a solid OLED display and a decent dual camera setup. Motorola initially promised at least 3 iterations of its Moto Z line to encourage people to invest in its Moto Mod ecosystem. Ultimately, Motorola went above and beyond by releasing a fourth generation Moto Z4 some time later. I never got to try that phone, but my time spent with the Z3 Play was memorable and enjoyable - and its physical side mounted fingerprint sensor remains my favorite implementation of a fingerprint scanner. For me, this was the most exciting line of phones Motorola had released since their ultra customizable Moto X Pure Edition. I can only hope Moto Maker returns someday! But until then, Motorola has introduced plenty of other innovations, and the Moto Z line remains one of their most fascinating series of devices. Thanks for watching!
