About This Video

Does your dog display random, unpredictable aggression in different contexts? In this video I break down why these “out of nowhere” outbursts often aren’t random at all—it’s just that the pattern is hard for us to see. I explain two big buckets to consider right away: underlying health issues (like pain or anxiety from an undiagnosed condition) and subtle triggers in the environment that dogs notice far more than we do. Then I walk you through my 4-step, force-free plan. First, I want you to consult your veterinarian to rule out or treat medical concerns. Second, work with a force-free behaviour professional who can spot patterns you might miss and help you build a humane plan. Third, start learning your dog’s triggers by watching early warning signs like freezing or growling—and by separating your dog’s needs (feeling safe) from wants (like greeting other dogs). Fourth, I cover management: barriers, gates, and proactive avoidance of situations that cause discomfort. For some dogs, management is a long-term commitment—and that’s okay. Many adult dogs simply don’t enjoy unfamiliar dogs, and with the right low-stress setup they can still live a full, happy life.
