Teach your dog calm awareness with LATTE and DECAF pattern games. 👉CHECK OUT my Dog Training and Behaviour Modification Principles online course! https://www.udemy.com/course/dog-training-and-behaviour-modification-principles/?referralCode=08986FDD9828949ACBBC If you want to [SUPPORT] the work that I do here, an easy way to do so is to buy me a coffee (or a few coffees) using this link: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/trainmeplease You can contact me using the following email: trainmepleasemelbourne@gmail.com Ever wish your dog could notice something in the environment and simply relax instead of reacting? In this video, I’ll walk you through two Control Unleashed pattern games by Leslie McDevitt — **LATTE** and **DECAF** — that do exactly that. These games help dogs process the world calmly, combining environmental awareness with natural decompression behaviours like sniffing, licking, and foraging. You’ll learn how to set up enrichment stations, when to mark and move, and how to adapt the structure for sensitive or reactive dogs. LATTE and DECAF are simple, kind, and incredibly effective tools to build calm curiosity, confidence, and emotional balance in your dog. 00:00 — Noticing the Environment Calmly 00:35 — Why LATTE and DECAF Work 01:27 — Setting Up Your Enrichment Loop 02:14 — How to Play LATTE 03:23 — How to Play DECAF (Gentler Version) 04:42 — Key Takeaways & Wrap-Up References Breau, M. About This Video

Ever wish your dog could notice something in the environment, stay calm, and then just… get back to relaxing? In this video I walk you through two brilliant Control Unleashed pattern games from Leslie McDevitt: LATTE (Look At That, Then Enrichment) and DECAF (the gentler, easier version). The whole point is to help dogs process the world with calm awareness, and then immediately shift into natural decompression behaviours like sniffing, licking, and foraging—rather than staying stuck in that alert “ready to work” state. I show you how I set up a loop (or line) of enrichment stations—snuffle mats, puzzle toys, boxes with treats—then place a helper at a distance where my dog can notice them but stay under threshold. With LATTE, I mark the moment my dog notices the helper and reorients back to me, then I guide them to an enrichment station and let them fully decompress before moving on. With DECAF, I keep it even softer: if my dog glances at the helper, I feed at the same station; if they look to me, we calmly move forward. Key takeaway: distance and threshold matter, and this isn’t about fixing everything in one session—it’s about predictable structure, choice, and emotional resilience.
