These procedures can also be used with puppies and with any dog if a good and pleasant association is to be established. Desensitisation allows us to get the dog habituated to things or potential triggers in the environment, such as other dogs, children, the mail man, cars, etc. Counterconditioning allows us to change the emotional response of the dog to any stimulus that might have a neutral or negative connotation.
