In this video I’m building a PedalPCB Colorsound Power Boost clone, and I run into a weird little landmine: the board has pads for both a 4.7µF cap and a 220nF cap in the same spot. At first glance it looks like they’re in parallel, which would be… let’s say “creative,” unless you want to start soldering parts to the underside of the board like a raccoon doing electronics. PedalPCB build docs are usually just enough to get you across the finish line, so I had to do some digging. I hit the forums, then I consulted our future overlord ChatGPT (purely for survival reasons, obviously). The consensus: it’s an either/or option. Start with the 4.7µF, and if it’s too boomy, clip it out and drop in the 220nF instead. I also talk through why running both doesn’t really make sense—capacitance adds, and with 4.7µF you’re already way down in the low zone, so the extra 220nF is basically pointless (or worse, just more rumbly bass you don’t want on guitar). Since I’m gain-staging this boost into another drive in a shared enclosure, I choose the 220nF to keep the low end from blasting the next pedal. Rock on and prosper, fellas.
