Today I had Grim Death and 7 Semis (the house band for the Tone Priest) crank out a cover of Monster Magnet’s “19 Witches,” and I built the whole guitar sound around two pedals headed to my Patreon supporter Mike. He’s the guy who won Pedal of the Month of the Year, and he chose the real spring-in-a-box reverb pedal we built, plus my mega Vemuram-inspired monster, La Boutique Magique (three Vemuram-style circuits stuffed into one giant pedal). I’m fine, really, I’m fine… The rule for this one was simple: both of Mike’s pedals live on every single guitar track. For the warbly, modulated stuff I leaned on the most recent Pedal of the Month in harmonic tremolo mode, with a little delay helping out where it needed to. Clean and clean-ish parts were the Jan Ray and the TSV 808, then I just pushed the gains up for the heavier sections. When the chorus hit and it was time to get rude, I kicked in the Karen and let it eat. Cool amp, cool pedals, cool song—done.
