https://timeandfeel.com If you know all the chords to Vulfpeck's "Back Pocket" but the groove still isn't there, it’s not your left hand—it’s your internal clock. The missing piece to that signature funk feel is locking deep into the pocket without rushing the beat. I built the Time & Feel rhythm trainer to help musicians actively fix their timing and stop rushing. It is 100% free to use. About This Video

In this video I’m breaking down why your “Back Pocket” groove still doesn’t feel right even if you “know the notes” and have the tab. It’s my mistake to think it’s about the left hand shapes—funk is way more about the silence you create between the notes. If your strings are ringing all the time, it’s never going to be funky. So I start with the first big fix: muting. Instead of grabbing a full G barre chord, I show how to play just the top, and—more importantly—how to press in when you want the note, then release (not fully) to get that percussive sound. Then we get into the real missing piece for most players: internal timing. I use the simplest backing track there is—a metronome—and I show you how to practice so the click “grooves” and basically disappears. We start with downstrokes right on the beat, then I make it harder by removing clicks: first only 2 and 4 (like the snare), and then the ultimate test—one click every four bars so you have to land on the 1 by feel. If you practice this way, your timing gets better faster, your groove locks in deeper, and you’ll actually sound like you’re in the pocket with a band.
