About This Video

I took my 2024 Tacoma SR5 in for the complimentary 5,000-mile service and it turned into a way bigger reality check than I expected. Toyota does the tire rotation, tops off fluids, and runs the multi-point inspection (and they’ll handle recalls/warranty issues too). They didn’t do an oil change on mine because it’s full synthetic at 10,000 miles, but the big moment was when they asked if I wanted a trade-in value. They came back with $30,000 flat, and I was genuinely confused. I’ve owned multiple Tacomas, and the whole reason I buy them is reliability and value—my past trucks barely dropped, and one even sold for more than MSRP. But this 4th gen Tacoma, in about 5–6 months, looked like it dropped around $9,000, and that’s exactly why I said “the Tacoma is no longer what it used to be.” I still love the way it looks—blacked out windows, blackout wheels, bed cover, stormtrooper vibe—but the interior compromises (awkward 9-inch screen gap, missing features like dual climate on SR5, manual seat) and the new 4-cylinder feel/sound just don’t hit the same for me.
