Tech enthusiasts hear “old processor, old Android version, no security patches” and start panicking. Regular folks? They don’t know what version of Android they’re on, and they don’t care. Their checklist is simple: does it call, text, run social media, take decent photos/videos, and give good battery life. If the answer is yes, they’re good. I also talk about money and upgrade cycles—because in the real world, people are on 2 to 3 year carrier payment plans. Once that phone is paid off and the bill drops, why jump right back into more debt just to “keep up with the Joneses”? That’s why companies target regular buyers, not us tech heads. And I’ll say it again: you don’t need a $1,000 phone to do basic smartphone stuff. I’ve tested the Note 9, Note 10, Note 20 Ultra, LG V60, Velvet, Wing, older Pixels—those cameras and features were already fantastic years ago.
