A scuba tank gets a Hydrostatic Test. Afterwards, it gets a Visual Inspection, or, as most scuba divers call it, a "VIP". Most scuba divers never get to see what happens to their tank when it goes out for “hydro”. I’ll walk you through the process while we watch a real scuba tank get tested in real time. This was super fun to be a part of, and I was told the general steps and then did my best to narrate them for the video. We did this unexpectedly, and it was unplanned. While filming an interview about NEX Underwater Products in Monterey Bay, CA, I noticed the service tech doing Hydrostatic testing in another part of the warehouse. I asked how the process takes place, and they let me participate to show you the how a Hydrostatic Test works. It was super fun to actually see how the hydro test works. Another fun fact is this process is done for all kinds of tanks out there (cylinders, if you want to be super correct). The hydrostatic test is also done on fire extinguishers, large banks, medical cylinders, SCBA system used for firefighting, and many others. Once finished, we also did a Visual Inspection on one of the scuba tanks, and even cleaned one out! (PS, the tumbling, whipping, and part of the Oxygen cleaning process was also courtesy of Spruce Creek Scuba, in Port Orange, FL. But finally, a BIG thank you to NEX Underwater Products for letting me watch this process and taking the time to show us all how it works.
