The twist: it’s the Afterschool Projects Rucksack, a quasi-deceased sub-label started by Mission Workshop folks as a playground to get weird with fabrics, form factors, and vibes. Mission Workshop is a benchmark for technical messenger-rooted packs, but they’re not exactly playful—so this “afterschool” experiment is where the fun lives. I walk through two versions: the standard X-Pac mixed-material Rucksack and the Mission Workshop x ASP tie-dye collaboration (canvas-fronted tie-dye X-Pac… risky, wild, and cool as heck). It’s a super slim top-loader with tote handles, a zip top, wide-set straps, load lifters, mesh bottle pockets, a surprisingly voluminous front “kangaroo” pocket, and a padded laptop compartment. It’s not ergonomic and it’s a little goofy-looking—on purpose—and it rules as a fun little city pack. My big takeaway is simple: brands, have fun. Build a playground—sub-label, capsules, collabs—whatever it takes to let designers go hog wild without messing with the golden goose. And Mission Workshop… please take this exact zip-top and slap it on a Rake. Let’s make magic happen.
