About This Video

In this video I put Waveform’s dual QuadMini setup to the test with the T-Mobile 5G Home Internet G5AR gateway. I’ve been using T-Mobile Home Internet for about 3–4 years now, and it honestly keeps getting better—better signal quality, way better ping than it used to be, and speeds that have increased a lot. The big question is: if the G5AR already has an 8x8 internal antenna system (and I’m already seeing great speeds), is it actually worth doing the extra work to add external antennas? So I ran real-world tests around my apartment, comparing the stock G5AR versus the dual QuadMini setup—front of the apartment, back of the apartment (where signal is worse), and then right by the window. I’m not here to promise you magic speed gains—anyone who guarantees that is lying—because tower capacity and interference (and yeah, NYC interference is rough) matter a lot. What I can say is external antennas can improve your metrics and reliability, and in my case I saw meaningful gains in certain spots, including better upload and a noticeable speed bump in my best placement. If you run a NAS, Plex, or anything remote, that extra stability and upload headroom can be absolutely worth it.
