What’s going on, guys? In this video I finally ditch those old, dorm-room-style blackout curtains (you know, the ones that look kinda like grandma sheer curtains) and I swap them out for Blinds Magic smart cellular shades. I’m in New York City, it’s been a straight-up stinker outside, and I wanted something that looks more modern, keeps my privacy, blocks the sun for sleep, and helps keep that cool cool AC in the room. I went with the 80% blackout linen version (they also have 100% blackout), and I show you how well they darken the room. I walk through the unboxing and the install, and honestly the install is the best part—two brackets, snap the shades into the clips, and you’re basically done. It took me about 15 minutes per blind once I found the center of the window sill. I also added the optional solar panel because I never want to think about charging, but you can charge via USB-C and you’re looking at around 6 months/600 cycles. Then I get into the smart controls: voice, remote, and app. I’m using the Zigbee version connected to my Samsung SmartThings station, and I show stop limits (top/bottom), favorite positions, routines (close at night, open in the morning), battery percentage, and even the history. Overall, super positive experience—and yeah, the next step is replacing every blind in my home.
