In this video I’m sharing all of the toys and presents my little boy Oscar got for his 3rd birthday. It’s a real mix of gifts from us and from friends and family, and I talk you through what’s actually getting used in our home and why. This year I also did something that worked so well: I ordered a list of things I was happy with, then let grandparents choose from that list. With four children now (including newborn triplets), I’m trying to be really strategic so we don’t end up completely overrun with toys, and so what we do have has loads of play value. I cover a big “main” gift (his pedal bike, alongside keeping the balance bike to transition slowly), plus some brilliant Orchard Toys games for turn taking and early number skills, and a 30-piece aeroplane jigsaw because he’s puzzle-mad and currently obsessed with planes. I also share the birthday books I chose (including one about the power of “yet” for confidence), and some of our favourite open-ended toys like Grimm’s semicircles and magnetic tiles. Finally, I show sensory play bits (kinetic sand), and classic long-lasting toys like wooden train track add-ons and sturdy vehicles—everything is very gender neutral and chosen for longevity.
