In this video, French Green Bean Casserole from Scratch, I show you step by step how to make this easy and delicious recipe. Recipe: French Green Bean Casserole from Scratch (This recipe serves 4 to 5 people. You can double it for a bigger crowd) 1 tsp kosher salt 12 oz of fresh french style green beans (wash, trim ends off, and cut crosswise in thirds) 3 tbsp of unsalted butter 8 oz of fresh mushrooms diced into bite size pieces ½ diced large yellow onion 2 garlic cloves finely chopped or 1 tsp of minced garlic 1/6 cup of all purpose flour 1 cup whole milk 3/8 cup ground Parmesan ¼ cup heavy cream 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice or lemon juice from concentrate ¼ tsp of freshly ground black pepper 1/8 tsp of nutmeg or all spice 1 ½ cups of Durkee fried onions Directions: (Pre-heat oven to 375°) Bring a pot of water to boil and season with 1 tsp of kosher salt. Add french style green beans and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. (Beans should be tender-crisp.) Drain cooked beans in a colander. While the beans are cooking, heat 1 tbsp of butter in a medium skillet or pan. Add mushrooms and ¼ tsp of salt. Stir occasionally. Cook for approximately 8 minutes. Mushrooms should be tender and golden brown. Remove from heat and cool. Return your pot you used to cook the beans to medium heat and melt the remaining 2 tbsp of butter. Add onions and garlic, stir occasionally for 3 to 4 minutes. Onions should be starting to turn brown. Now sprinkle in flour and use a whisk. Cook flour mixture for one minute. While whisking steadily, slowly pour whole milk into the pot. Increase heat to medium high and continue cooking, now stir occasionally, until the sauce comes to a boil and thickens, 1 to 2 minutes more. Now remove pan from heat and add ¾ tsp of salt, the cooked beans, mushrooms, 1/4 cup of Parmesan, heavy cream, lemon juice, black pepper, and nutmeg or All Spice. Add half of your Durkee fried onions. Stir to combine. Place in oven and bake for 35 minutes. Pull out the casserole and place the rest of the Durkee fried onions on top and bake for 5 more minutes. Allow casserole to rest for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
