Welcome to Deefer Diving's new YouTube channel, D for Diving. How many dive professionals have been on a dive where you 'accidentally' went beyond your no-decompression limit? Or where you've been diving and come very very close to your NDL? I'm guessing its quite a few. Now how many of these industry professionals know anything about decompression theory, advanced nitrox or how to properly use your dive computers? I'm guessing this number is quite a bit lower. Isn't it strange that so many professionals in our industry do not know the first thing about the procedures for managing a short amount of deco, but live in fear of the NDL. Here, in Part 2 of our 2-part video series, Jon and Gary discuss decompression theory, the physics and physiology of exceeding NDL, the reasons we believe that advanced level theory knowledge should be required for all dive instructors as a developmental, leadership and risk management too, as well as the benefits to you as that dive instructor. Check our first video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjRlO2wGrXI What are your thoughts? Should this theory be incorporated into all dive professional training? Leave your comments in the section below. As discussed in the video, below are some links which we believe are relevant to the discussion too. Make sure you check them out as well.... Here is an excellent video by Dr. Simon Mitchell, exploring some controversies relating to decompression - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UY61E49lyos And another Mitchell providing an overview of the different decompression models employed in modern diving - https://vimeo.com/25730551 A great all round publication/article from Mitchell and Lippmann on Divernet - https://divernet.com/product/deeper-into-diving-2/ As well as one of the best "Intro to" books available to buy - https://www.divegearexpress.com/iantd-exploration-and-mixed-gas-diving-encyclopedia-the-tao-of-survival-underwater - Deefer Diving are a full service dive operation in Carriacou, Grenada.
