On Your Knees Diver! Why Are We Still Taking A Knee?

If you have already learned to dive, the chances are you learned most of the diving skills whilst on your knees on the bottom of the pool, lake or ocean. I know I did. Once we had learned to perform like a seal on the bottom, we would have wondered why we were so bad on air and had so many buoyancy control issues. Is it any wonder? We had not been taught how to dive! Since 2014 the diving training agencies started to roll out their guidance on teaching Open Water Diver courses, recommending that students be taught neutrally buoyant. In 2021 most students are still taught on their knees. Ever wondered why? Why are so many scuba diving instructors continue to teach using this outdated model? Is it better for you, the student?
