About This Video

In this video I’m down in my crypto dungeon kicking off the early days of a crazy new build, and I wanted to share a simple trick that saves a ton of frustration when you’re drilling server cases or mounting boards for SBC clusters. No matter how hard you try to mark your dots perfectly, once you start drilling, things always seem to shift a little—there’s always some wiggle or jiggle that makes holes not line up exactly the way you planned. My tip is to reuse your peg holes and “pre-drill” in a consistent way so everything indexes off the same reference point. What I do is pick the left-hand corner hole for every mount position going down the case, drill only that one first, then use the template to anchor, line everything up exactly how I want it, and pre-tap those holes. Then I keep moving down the line. When I come back and finish drilling, everything lines up way more accurately, and if one hole is slightly off, you can adjust on the fly because you’ve got a visual reference. Problem solved.
