What’s going on cryptocurrency Universe, it’s the Bitcoin Miner here. In this video I kick off a 3-part comparison series on mining Verus on single-board computers (SBCs), starting with the Orange Pi 5. My main focus here is simple: Verus is CPU-focused, so I’m looking at real-world hash rate, watts, temps, and what actually matters when you’re trying to scale a farm. I also do a quick high-level comparison of what’s out there—Raspberry Pi (basically out for mining for me), Banana Pi (older/cheaper silicon like 22nm), and boards like Rock Pi that are running newer 7nm chips similar to what Orange Pi is using. On the Orange Pi 5 (RK3588S), I’m seeing roughly ~7 MH/s on Verus, and power draw right around 9.1–9.2 watts in my setup. Temps with the “ice cooler” are about 65°F, which is not bad, not great—so I’m also testing cheaper DIY cooling options because if you’re scaling, $18 per cooler adds up fast. I also call out something people ignore: cables and chargers matter. When you’re chasing tenths of a watt per board, that turns into real savings when you’ve got 50–100 of these stacked into a server case.
