About This Video

What’s going on cryptocurrency universe, it’s The Bitcoin Miner. In this video I walk you through the Chia plotting/“mining” PC build I decided to go with, and why I think it’s the best balance of budget, performance, and extended life. The big thing I want you to think about is “life after plotting”—because you’re only going to fill hard drives for so long and you’re only going to burn up SSDs for so long. So I’m building this in a way that can pivot later into CPU mining, GPU mining, or even just a solid general-purpose/gaming rig. I break down CPU choices (I went Ryzen 9 3900X), RAM capacity and timings (this matters more than people think—especially on AMD), motherboard/VRM considerations for running 24/7 at 95–100% load, and storage options for temp drives. I cover why enterprise U.2 drives can be a better value than consumer NVMe for sustained plotting, how PCIe slot bandwidth and adapters affect your layout, and why Gen4 M.2 is the move if you’re staying consumer. I also talk power supply headroom, cases/airflow, and practical farm stuff like external drives, USB hubs, and even power strip orientation so you don’t build yourself into a corner.
