About This Video

What’s going on Cryptocurrency Universe — it’s The Bitcoin Miner here. In this update I’m walking you through my Chia “mining wall” that’s been running for almost two and a half years now, just chugging away. I’m sitting a little over 1 PB (should be closer to 1.1 PB, but I’ve definitely got at least one dead drive in the mix), and we’re about seven months out from the first Chia halving where the block reward drops from 2 XCH to 1 XCH. If you’ve been thinking about adding drives, this is that pivotal ROI window where you’d try to maximize it before the halving hits. I also talk about the new compression plots update. I haven’t fully researched it yet, but I’m not thrilled about re-plotting everything again — I was hoping for a longer window out of K-32s. The big question is power: more compression usually means more processing power, so you’ve got to weigh the extra wattage versus the gain. On my side, this whole setup pulls right at about 900 watts total for four banks and four computers (two harvesters and a mother), and it’s still pretty manageable heat-wise in the garage. Finally, I break down what it’s earning: around 10,706 plots active, roughly $270/month (about $9/day), on a build that cost me about $26K. I also show my wiring/power layout and talk through my “pesty booger” drive issues and how I’m planning possible expansion with bigger drives.
