About This Video

In this update, I’m walking you guys through where my 1.1 PB Chia “mining wall” is at in 2022, what I learned, and why I’m still running it even after Chia came out hot and then cooled off hard. I’ll be straight with you: timing matters in crypto. Chia was near $2,000 early on, and I wish I sold more back then, but overall I feel decent because I got most of my hardware paid for. My general strategy is still the same—if you’ve got cash, buy crypto, and if you’re buying hardware, I like using 12–24 month interest-free credit when it makes sense. I break down the physical setup: banks of external drives, four HP EliteDesk machines on Windows, and how I manage them with a simple monitor switch setup so I can bounce between rigs fast. I also talk power—this whole 1.1 PB wall is sitting around ~575W, and I actually use the power draw as an easy “health check” to spot when Windows hangs or a set of drives isn’t spinning up. Then we get into ROI reality: at roughly $100/XCH and today’s hardware costs, you’re looking at about a two-year payback, with drives typically lasting 3–5 years. For me it’s diversification—low maintenance, power efficient, and I’m willing to hunker down through the lows and let it play out.
