The Hondo II project is finally in the books. What started out as an unplayable guitar is now a rock-and-roll machine for the most part, and in this video we're taking a final look at the completed project. We'll walk through everything that was done along the way, from the fretwork and setup to the electronics, hardware, and the various adventures that come with bringing an old guitar back to life. I'll also share some tone samples, talk about how the guitar plays, and discuss a few things I may still revisit down the road. Now, let's get one thing out of the way. This isn't a Gibson Les Paul. It's a bolt-on neck LP copy from the 1980s. If that's a deal breaker for you, I get it. For me, though, this guitar brings back memories of my first Hondo, garage-band days with friends, and the kinds of guitars many of us started on. Along the way we leveled, crowned, and polished frets, replaced the electronics, upgraded hardware, addressed a few structural concerns, and got this old guitar back into playing condition. Most importantly, we took a guitar that wasn't making music and put it back to work. In this video: • Final walkthrough of the completed Hondo II • Fretwork, setup, and playability discussion • Electronics and hardware upgrades • Tone samples and pickup impressions • Thoughts on Hondo guitars from back in the day • Future plans for the guitar If you've been following this project from the beginning, thank you for all the love, support, encouragement, and advice along the way.
