Come on the journey with us! We're taking on a unique customer project: transforming an affordable Epiphone Special II into a metal machine with the James Hetfield JH set of EMG active pickups. This video covers the initial assessment of the used guitar, unboxing the active electronics, and outlining the major challenges ahead! The Project Challenges: Electronics Configuration: Wiring the JH solderless system to use only one Volume and one Tone control, instead of the standard four. Battery Installation: Finding space for the 9V battery and solderless hub in the cramped control cavity. We discuss the idea of routing a separate rear-mounted battery box for easy access. Fret Work: Inspecting and planning for potential fret leveling and crowning on the used neck.
