In this Apple Event recap (April 2021), I sat down with my friend Tyler and we broke down the three big hardware drops: AirTags, the new M1 iMac, and the M1 iPad Pro. I didn’t catch the keynote live, so I came in off recaps and Tyler filled in the gaps—then we got straight into what actually matters in real-world use: pricing, practicality, and whether any of this is worth upgrading for. AirTags were the sleeper hit for me. It’s not “new” tech, but if you’re in the Apple ecosystem, the whole Find My integration is the point—and my biggest gripe with Tile-style trackers has always been reliability. With Apple, I expect it to work every time, and that’s why I’m genuinely excited to throw these on keys, bags, and the stuff I lose constantly (camera cables, I’m looking at you). On the iMac, I was hyped after using the M1 MacBook Air and realizing how slow my older iMac feels—but the 24-inch-only move is a dealbreaker for my workflow. The iPad Pro with M1 is the one that almost got me: if iPadOS finally plays nice with pro apps, monitors, and peripherals (like my Samsung Q9U mic), it could be the first iPad that truly competes with a laptop. Apple’s close… but not quite there yet.
