About This Video

IT support isn’t dying, but it is changing fast—and if you’re still thinking “I just reset passwords and image laptops,” you’re going to fall behind. In this video I break down how Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 support roles are evolving, based on what I’ve been seeing over the last few years. When I started in tech my job was pretty defined: keep the thing running, patch it, secure it. Today it’s the same idea, but way more complex because now you’ve got virtualization, cloud, AI, cybersecurity, and automation all hitting at once. I explain what each support level typically does (help desk/service desk, desktop support/analyst work, then sysadmin/network/storage/security specialization) and what skills are becoming non-negotiable going into 2026. You need real cloud knowledge (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud), and if you live in Microsoft 365 you have to understand Intune deployments, patching/packaging, and Entra ID. I also talk about DevOps/DevSecOps, containers like Docker, and the reality of supporting a remote workforce—VPNs, remote deployment, and especially conditional access. And yes, AI is a thing. I call it “Level 0 support” because it reduces Level 1 tickets, but it also creates governance and security problems if people paste company data into random AI tools. The takeaway: use AI and automation to make your life easier, but put guard rails in place—and get serious about cybersecurity because attacks are only getting worse.
