That’s the part people don’t realize: a lot of these devices look local, but behind the scenes they’re talking back to Amazon’s cloud, which sits on AWS. In this video I break down what an AWS outage actually means in the real world, and why it’s a bigger deal than “my speaker won’t answer.” The internet runs on massive physical data centers, and a lot of services depend on a few big players—AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. When one of them has a major issue, your “smart” home can turn real dumb, real fast. It also made me question (and I’m a techie, I love this stuff) whether going fully digital everywhere is the best move long-term, especially as we push harder into IoT and AI-driven homes and offices.
