If you’re an IT manager (or you’re aiming to become one), burnout usually isn’t because you “can’t handle pressure” — it’s because you’re juggling everything: tickets, complaints, security issues, outages, projects, budgets, governance, and people. In this video I break down how I stay calm, cool, and organized when the pressure ramps up, because your team is watching you for direction. If you’re not organized, things get missed, you get overwhelmed, and you’ll eventually want to quit — and we don’t want that. I walk through practical strategies I use in the real world: planning my week (and even the month/quarter when I can), blocking work in my Outlook calendar so I don’t “forget” critical tasks like DR planning, and using the ticketing system for my own management work (start dates, due dates, priorities, alerts). I also talk about taking notes (don’t rely on your brain), keeping your workspace and inbox clean, and scheduling focus time where I shut off chat, email, and even my phone if needed. Finally, I get into documentation and governance: documenting everything (network diagrams, configs, backups, rack layouts) and backing it up with clear IT policies like an Acceptable Use Policy so the business knows what’s allowed and your environment isn’t living in people’s heads.
