About This Video

Hey friends—today I’m on my MacBook Pro showing you the simplest way to screen capture and screen record using macOS’s built-in Screenshot app. This is one of those tools I use all the time because it’s fast, it’s already on your Mac, and it works great whether you’re grabbing quick snapshots for a project or recording a tutorial, presentation, or anything else on your screen. I walk you through exactly where to find it (Launchpad > Other > Screenshot) if you don’t already have it sitting in your dock. Once you open Screenshot, you get a clean little options bar with everything you need. I show you how to capture the entire screen, capture a selected window (so you don’t have to crop later), and capture a selected portion by dragging those dotted-line handles to the exact area you want. Then we jump into recording: you can record your entire screen or just a selected portion, and starting is as easy as hitting Record. My one small dislike is that stopping isn’t super obvious at first—you’ll need to click the little stop button up in the menu bar. When you’re done, your recording saves right to the desktop, making it easy to find and share.
