About This Video

In this video, I’m working in a Google Sheet and showing you exactly how to protect (lock) cells so they can’t be manipulated or deleted—especially when you’re sharing a spreadsheet across a team. This comes up all the time with collaborative Sheets, and it’s a simple way to make sure you’re the only one who can edit key cells, names, dates, numbers, or formulas. I use a basic “imaginary business team” spreadsheet example and walk through protecting a single cell first, then expanding it to a larger range. I show you where to find everything under Data → Protect sheets and ranges, and how Google Sheets defaults to protecting the range you currently have selected. From there, you can protect a specific range (like A12:B15) or switch to “Sheet” to protect the entire tab so no cells can be changed. Then I break down permissions: you can either show a warning when someone edits, or restrict who can edit—either just you, or a custom list of people by Google account. Finally, I show you how to view what’s protected, hover to see the protected area highlighted, and quickly confirm what’s locked so your data stays clean and consistent.
