About This Video

In this quick Mac tutorial, I walk you through how to set up and use Hot Corners in macOS so you can trigger helpful actions just by touching the edge of your screen. I start by going to System Settings (Apple icon > System Settings), then Desktop & Dock, and scrolling all the way down to the Hot Corners section. From there, you can assign an action to any of the four corners—things like Quick Note, Mission Control, Show Desktop, and more. I’ll show you a real example with Quick Note, where hitting the corner brings up that little gray box and lets you instantly pop open a new note. Then I set up another corner to Lock Screen, which is honestly one of the most practical uses—especially if you’re working at a coffee shop and want to step away without anyone being nosy. I also talk about the downside: if you assign something like Lock Screen, it can be annoying if you accidentally hit that corner. And if you decide Hot Corners aren’t for you, I show you how to disable them by setting each corner to the dash so they’re “cold” and do nothing.
