About This Video

In this video I’m setting up my little unique desk platform (yep—an old piano) with my MacBook Pro, an external monitor, and an older Apple Magic Keyboard that I want to connect over Bluetooth. The good news is this same pairing process works for most Apple Bluetooth keyboards, whether you’re using a MacBook Pro like me, a Mac mini, or basically any Mac where you’ve got the same macOS/iOS-style settings layout. I walk you through the simple steps: first, make sure your keyboard has fresh batteries (on my model, the power button is on the right side and the battery tube is right there too). Then on your Mac, head into System Settings and open Bluetooth so it can start searching for nearby devices. Once the keyboard is powered on (you’ll see the green light), the “Apple Wireless Keyboard” shows up—hit Connect, type the pairing code it gives you, and you’re in. After that, it works just like a normal keyboard across your apps, and I do a quick typing test to prove it’s connected and ready to go.
