About This Video

In this video I break down the new Chinese regulations and what they could realistically mean for us as online ESL teachers. I’d been doing a lot of reading and researching, so I wanted to pull everything together in one place: what the changes are, why they’re being introduced, and the practical knock-on effects for teachers who’ve relied heavily on China-based platforms. One key point I make (because there was a lot of confusion at the time) is that English is a core subject — but the way it’s delivered and who can profit from it is where the big changes come in. I also talk candidly about the risk of having all your eggs in one basket right now. If your income is tied to one China-based company, you need a plan B (and probably a plan C). I share suggestions for diversifying, including looking at companies based outside China and even branching into non-ESL online teaching. I also mention the immediate industry impact I was seeing, like Whales English suspending hiring, while other companies were still taking on teachers. If you’re feeling worried, my goal is to help you get informed, stay calm, and start making moves that protect your income.
