These past few weeks have been hard, and in this video I’m basically giving you a very honest update on where my head is at with China-based online ESL and why I deleted WeChat. I talk about how the changes and the uncertainty have affected me personally, not just professionally, and why I needed to step back from the constant noise to protect my mental space. Deleting WeChat wasn’t some dramatic “statement” — it was me drawing a line because I could feel myself spiralling with the updates, rumours, and pressure to make decisions before I was ready. I also share how I feel now that I’ve taken that break, and what I’m considering next in my own ESL journey. I’m still weighing up options and trying to decide what kind of work and lifestyle I actually want going forward — especially if teaching Chinese students online is still on the table. The big takeaway is that it’s okay not to have a perfect plan immediately, and it’s okay to pause, reflect, and choose what’s best for you rather than reacting out of fear.
