This week Elgato dropped a bunch of new gear across Stream Deck and Wave, and the headline for me is what I’m calling the “one Stream Deck to rule them all”: the Stream Deck + XL. For years, when people asked me which Stream Deck to buy first, I’ve said Stream Deck XL—because lots of buttons means lots of functionality without constantly switching pages and profiles. Then the Stream Deck + becomes the perfect companion because the dials are brilliant for fine control (especially audio). The problem has always been that the Stream Deck + is a bit limited on buttons if you really start using Stream Deck as the ultimate productivity tool. The Stream Deck + XL basically fixes that by combining the best of both—and then surpassing them. You get 36 keys (a 9x4 layout) plus six dials, and you can even use a dial for page forward/back to stop “wasting” buttons on navigation. I also talk about the new Elgato Wave XLR Pro: a more “pro” hardware interface with two mic inputs, dual headphone outputs, line in/out, and the ability to connect to two computers—controlled through the updated Wave software and (crucially) your Stream Deck. Once I get my hands on the Stream Deck + XL I’ll do a full review, but I’m already confident it’ll be the one I recommend to most creators building a clean, confident one-take workflow.
