Ecamm 4.5 is out, and the headline feature is Dual Mode — meaning I can stream and record in horizontal and vertical at the same time. The big win is that I can finally create my “normal” horizontal YouTube content, but automatically walk away with a vertical-ready version of every single recording. For me, that’s huge because my whole thing is zero edits (that’s literally why the channel is called Take One Tech). Repurposing always felt like an editing task… and now it doesn’t. I’m just going to stay in Dual Mode for basically everything I do. In this video I also walk through the other updates that matter: Ecamm Live is now just “Ecamm,” the Preferences window has a new layout (plus an outline window font size option), and there’s a new grid view for scenes that’s especially interesting if you’ve got a touchscreen monitor. Video overlays now play audio (finally), and there are new encoding options — including recording with a separate encoder so your recording quality doesn’t drop if your stream data rate drops. Plus, Ecamm can now downsample per platform when multi-streaming, so you’re not stuck at the lowest common denominator. Then I show exactly how Dual Mode works: two canvases, duplicating overlays between them, setting independent resolutions, choosing which canvas your virtual camera uses, and how scheduling destinations works when you’re streaming vertical/horizontal/both.
