In 2024, a man in São Paulo was mistakenly arrested four times because of a facial recognition system. There was no one to hold accountable. This lecture starts from that case to discuss why algorithmic accountability in Brazil is still an empty promise, and why change needs to begin in the classrooms where technology is taught. As a technology professor, I realized that we teach how algorithms work, but we do not teach whom they are meant to serve.
