We spend decades preparing for life. Careers. Families. Legacies. But what about the one journey every one of us will eventually take? After witnessing a farewell stripped of dignity, Srikanth Badiga began asking a question most of us avoid: what does a society's treatment of death reveal about how it values life? Drawing lessons from global practices, personal experiences, and the transformation of Mahaprasthanam into a model for dignified farewells, this talk challenges us to rethink progress itself, not as what we build, but as how we care. At TEDxHyderabad's Fire Up, this talk ignites a conversation rarely spoken aloud, yet relevant to every human life: how dignity, compassion, and humanity should accompany us until the very end. Badiga Srikanth is Group Director of Phoenix Group, one of India’s leading infrastructure and SEZ developers, where he has played a key role since its inception in 2002. He was instrumental in building Phoenix into one of the country’s largest IT/ITES SEZ developers. He serves as Regional Director (Asia) at the World Free Zones Organization and Chairman of Export Promotion Council for EOUs and SEZs under the Government of India. He has contributed extensively to SEZ policy, including as a member of the Baba Kalyani Committee. A former Chairman of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (AP & Telangana) and a leader within ASSOCHAM, he actively shapes trade and industry dialogue. He is also engaged in CSR initiatives through the Phoenix Foundation. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
