I don’t often use this technique and I would never count on this ALONE to keep a log on the stump, but this was a good circumstance to employ the technique. Combined with the fact that most of the branches were still on the tree and the uphill slope did not also cause the log to jump it allowed for some EXTRA control and will let the homeowner buck the log from the top down without fear of it rolling on him.
