Using mechanical advantage systems for pulling is a valuable and necessary skill in all sorts of tree work, but there are so many ways to achieve the same outcome. In this video I demonstrate a few different methods I will frequently use, to generate 1000 lbs of tension on a primary anchor point. I Use the GRCS as the most expensive but simplest method, then two devices combined with a 2:1 Pulley arraignment and a port-wrap, and lastly a method that uses 3 pulleys arranged in a 6:1 compound pulley system. These methods are all great for compensating for tree lean, creating favorable lean on neutral trees, rescuing equipment, tensioning high-lines and many other circumstances we come across at work.
