You've been told your whole life to want it more. Try harder. Care more. And you believed it. So why is your game still stuck? Because trying harder is not always the answer. Sometimes it is actually the problem. In this video I break down one of the most dangerous pieces of advice in basketball, why trying harder works in some situations and completely destroys your game in others, and what the difference between effort and force actually is at the mental level. Most recreational players are not passive out there. They are pressing. They are forcing. They are playing with so much conscious effort that their instincts cannot shine through. And the harder they try in that state, the worse they play. Nobody tells you that because trying hard is supposed to be a virtue. But misdirected effort is worse than no effort.
