Every recreational player thinks they have good basketball IQ. Almost none of them do. And the ones that actually do have it are not the ones who think they do. In this video I break down what basketball IQ actually is, what it is not, and why most recreational players have it completely backwards. The answer is not what you think it is. And once you hear it, you are going to look at your game differently. Here is the problem. Basketball IQ is not knowing plays. It is not understanding offensive schemes. It is not having watched a thousand NBA games. That is basketball knowledge. And basketball knowledge and basketball IQ are not the same thing. Basketball knowledge lives in your mind. Basketball IQ lives in your instincts. Most pickup players have decent basketball knowledge but completely underdeveloped basketball IQ. They know what should happen. They just cannot see it fast enough when it is actually happening. Reading the game from your couch when you can see the whole court with no defender in your face and no pressure on you is easy. Reading it from inside a real game with a defender in your face and point games on the line and your emotions fully activated is a completely different skill. Most players conflate those two things their entire careers. Real basketball IQ is built through reps in high pressure situations where the right read has to happen fast and the wrong read has real consequences. Not by watching more film. I was still at a noticeable disadvantage on the court. So, I began to explore unusual avenues of streetball manipulation. Aspects of the game that were sorely overlooked by my contemporaries. Regardless of how small or seemingly insignificant, I looked for every advantage to improve my game even just the slightest bit more. Over time, I combined all of those small advantages (strategies), with good old fashioned hard-work to not only compete with any player in my path but elevate my game to heights I never could’ve imagined. That’s what I want to do for you. This isn't a channel about streetball ankle breakers, or streetball moves, or streetball highlights or even plain ol' basketbal highlights. It's not even really about basketball drills. I want to teach hardcore streetballers who may not be very talented how to discover the depths of their own potential using strategies more gifted or accomplished players would probably not even consider.
