When you’ve got audio but the screen is black, it’s usually one of three things: a software glitch, an HDMI handshake/input problem, or a backlight failure. I start with the basics that fix a surprising number of cases: plug the TV directly into the wall (skip power strips for now), physically unplug it, then do a real power drain by holding the TV’s physical power button for 30 seconds and leaving it unplugged for another 60 seconds. After that, I go straight into HDMI handshake troubleshooting: unplug the HDMI cable from both ends, inspect for damage, swap ends, try a different cable, and move to a different HDMI port. Then I show the “moment of truth” flashlight test in a dark room—if you can see a faint image with a flashlight, your TV is trying to display and the backlight is likely the problem.
