In this part of my Meteor.js microblogging series, I finally hook up the “upload profile photo” feature to AWS S3. Up to now we’ve been handling images locally, but that doesn’t scale well and it’s not how you want to run a real app. So in this video I focus on the S3 side of things: getting the upload flow working so your user profile image ends up in an S3 bucket instead of sitting on your server. The main takeaway is the overall shape of the solution: your Meteor app needs a clean path from “user selects an image” to “image is stored remotely” and then back to “I can display that image on the profile.” I also point you to the full codebase and the step-by-step repo so you can compare your implementation with mine while you follow along. If you’re building anything user-driven (avatars, posts with images, thumbnails), this is the exact kind of plumbing you want in place early—because once S3 is working, the rest of your media features become way easier to build.
